2. Backlash vs. The Miz

If there’s one man on the planet who loves the Intercontinental Championship even more than Seth Rollins, then it’s The Miz. This is the title he boosted on SmackDown Live two years ago, winning it back from Dolph Ziggler after the latter initially put his career on the line to win said title. Now how is that for importance?

After winning the championship at WrestleMania 34 in a potentially show-stealing Triple Threat match, Rollins needed to retain the title against The Miz in the latter’s rematch before going to SmackDown Live. While there could be only one winner at Backlash, the two did so well in the ring on that night, it was fair to question the result as the match was happening.

With nearfalls and big moves galore, The Miz and Rollins put together one of the best main roster matches of the year, on arguably the worst PPV of the year in any major promotion. Once again, Rollins and The Miz kicked off the show, and they outshined everyone else on the card by some distance, sending a message to the rest of the talented locker room.

In this match, Rollins kicked out of two Skull Crushing Finales in order to retain the title, and this sold the lengths he was willing to take (and the lengths he had to go in order to beat Miz) in order to be the Intercontinental Champion.
