WWE Raw Results, Highlights, And Grades For December 31, 2018
Ember Moon, Sasha Banks, Bayley vs. The Riott Squad
A unique first-time matchup on WWE Raw will bless all of us…OK, I won’t be bitter because these six women are awesome and will put on another show for us. Anyway, Michael Cole predicts that Ember Moon will have a “monster” 2019, so can you say…Raw Women’s Champion?
Liv Morgan and Bayley begin the match with The Huggable One unloading with a Thesz Press before Liv quickly tossed her to the ground, tagging in Sarah Logan. Also, the Logan/Morgan connection in the ring is excellent, though this time it wasn’t quite enough to top what Sasha Banks and Bayley pulled off to turn the tide.
Banks started putting the boots on Logan in the corner, but as she focused on going for the tag, Logan pushed her to the corner. Sasha made a beautiful tag while isolating Logan, and Bayley re-entered to ground Logan before tagging Ember Moon in. The faces were isolating the heel here, which was quite interesting, but the wrestling made it work.
Ruby Riott tagged in to match up with Ember, and these familiar foes immediately started killing it. But the match soon began to break down as Banks and Bayley helped Ember avoid getting into a three-on-one situation in the Riott Squad’s corner, with Sasha hitting a massive knee on Liv outside the ring.
After the break, Bayley was working on Ruby, with Liv nervously watching on the outside. But Ruby used her power to get the advantage on Bayley, absorbing a few kicks before tagging Morgan, who ate an arm drag for going at Bayley. The crowd asked for Sasha to come in and Bayley gleefully obliged to the approval of the audience.
But the Riott Squad took advantage, isolating Sasha and putting the hurt on The Legit Boss, with Ruby taunting her in the center of the ring. Banks fought back with a beautiful crucifix pin, but that was only a brief glimmer. After Logan tagged in, she barely got out of a vicious knee, and a frustrated Logan dragged Sasha back into the corner for Liv to hit a nearfall of her own against the resilient Banks. Frustrated, Liv screamed and went for two more covers, losing her cool against a more experienced opponent.
Ember Moon had one of the highlights of the night with an amazing crossbody to the outside, but because everyone moved outside the ring, Banks had nobody to tag to until Bayely finally hopped in. Bayley moved to the top rope after a big backstabber from Banks, and Bayley pinned Logan for a satisfying W.
Grade: B+, Very good match that hypes up the upcoming Women’s Tag Team Championships. I could watch these six women wrestle for hours, because they always bring something different to the table in their matches. They deserve all the credit in the world.
