IWGP Jr. Tag Team Championship: Yoshinobu Kanemaru & El Desperado(c) vs SHO & YOH vs BUSHI & Shingo Takagi
Although no one’s really going to tune into Wrestle Kingdom for this match, I wouldn’t be surprised if it were to exceed expectations and end up being one of the night’s more memorable bouts. There’s just too match talent here for it to be anything less than a good time.
The champions are set to enter this three way less than fifty days short of breaking the record for longest reign in this history of the junior tag belts. It may seem strange, as Despy and his whisky drinking buddy aren’t exactly the most celebrated tag team out there, but they’ve actually put together a strong, consistent title reign, excellently playing antagonists to some of NJPW’s most beloved babyfaces.
The junior tag division wasn’t anything extraordinary in 2018, but it was certainly solid, and that’s largely thanks to the Suzuki-Gun duo. If NJPW decides to pull the trigger on them breaking the record, you won’t hear me complaining. With that being said, either of their Tokyo Dome opponents would benefit greatly from picking up the belts of January 4th. It’s impossible to predict with confidence, but I’ll go with LIJ cause Shingo is a dragon and BUSHI is bae.
Prediction: BUSHI and Shingo Takagi
