IWGP Tag Team Championship: Tama Tonga & Tonga Loa(c) vs SANADA & EVIL vs Nick Jackson & Matt Jackson
These three teams have faced off throughout the last year, with the Jackson brothers and EVIL & SANADA putting on a pair of excellent matches in the summer, GoD beating the Bucks for the belts at Fighting Spirit Unleashed in September, and EVIL & SANADA going over the Guerillas in the finals of World Tag League. The symmetry that makes so much of NJPW’s booking so consistently great is certainly at work here, making this match feel like an epic, fitting conclusion to the heavyweight tag division’s recent history.
For my money, this is a dark horse to steal the entire show. Each team is great and brings something unique to the table. When all these styles and in ring personalities come together on January 4th, we could be in store for something truly special.
With the future of the Bucks’ role in the company in question after the big AEW announcement, I would think they’re probably the least likely of the three duos to leave with the belts here. That leaves GoD and EVIL & SANADA. Obviously one would expect the central story of this match to revolve around the rivalry between the Jacksons and the Tongans, which could leave the door open for the LIJ team to play the background and pick up an opportunistic victory in the end.
Prediction: EVIL and SANADA
