Special Singles Match: Kazuchika Okada vs Jay White
Jay White’s character arc and feud with Okada was the highlight of NJPW’s 2018 as far as I’m concerned. Fully honing in on the leader of Chaos at his lowest point, the Switchblade has made it his mission to use a vulnerable and unstable Okada as his personal stepping stone to the top of the company.
Along the way, White has stolen the allegiance of Gedo, left Chaos in shambles, and joined up with the equally despicable Bullet Club to help him accomplish his goals. The unpredictable storyline has remained consistently interesting and exciting for months, and has successfully given this match a true “big fight” feel.
White already defeated Okada in the G1 and has gotten the better of him in the large majority of their interactions. It seems like the villain should be set to get his comeuppance at Wrestle Kingdom, but it may not be that straightforward.
The Rainmaker has already been established as NJPW’s top guy for the foreseeable future. He could definitely take this loss in the Tokyo Dome and eventually bounce back to the top of the card. On the other hand, it feels like Jay White needs a big, signature win to be cemented as the company’s top gaijin heel.
Prediction: Jay White
