Impact Wrestling Homecoming’s Best and Worst Moments
Worst: Ultimate X feels the curse of TNA
No event is without problems, and Homecoming seemed to channel some old-school TNA problems throughout the night. They weren’t enough to overshadow the great stuff, but they still stood out. The first came during Ultimate X, a match that hasn’t been seen in Impact Wrestling in over a year.
Generally, the biggest fear going into the match is about the danger to the competitors. Instead, we had an old problem pop up.
A little ways into the night’s hectic opening contest, I noticed that the camera wouldn’t show a view of the ring. At one point it cut back and you could briefly see a ladder on the edge of the apron being slid out. The reason was that they’d shifted the action to the outside so they could avoid showing the problem on television.
The title had shaken loose and fallen from the top of the Ultimate X structure. This isn’t the first time Ultimate X has had this kind of problem.
A referee and other crew got out a ladder to climb up and put the title back in place, catching some “ladder” chants from the crowd. While it’s a frustrating moment, I have to give props to Impact Wrestling for keeping it almost entirely off the feed. Aside from a feeling that things were staying on the outside of the ring for a reason, the hiccup didn’t interfere with the match itself.
