Worst: “Dicks Out for Taya”

Normally, I’m all for crowd participation. Throughout the night, the Impact Wrestling crowd was hot which made for an even better show. The fans were clearly enjoying themselves, chanting, and having a good ol’ time. However, there is a line when fans can go wrong. Unfortunately we saw a little of that at Homecoming, and these fans were just trashy.

Four fans in the front row came shirtless and painted the letters “T-A-Y-A” on their chest. That alone would have been alright, but things got weird when it came to their signs. Not only did they have signs with eggplants on them, pretty much the closest thing to holding up a sign with a penis on it you can get, but someone had a “Dicks Out for Taya” sign.

Grow up guys. These women don’t need your signs to have a badass match.

Worst: The Main Event’s Awkward Ending

My final “worst moment” is probably the most frustrating, because it left an awkward asterisk on an otherwise great main event.

The build to Brian Cage challenging Johnny Impact for the World Title has been truly spectacular. Between the hype packages and Brian Cage’s Terminator-esque entrance, it was clear that this was the kind of match that deserved main event billing.

That match itself was great. Brian Cage’s uncanny power was on display, as was the athleticism of Johnny Impact. Near the end, Cage was getting increasingly frustrated with his inability to put away Johnny. While Cage was regrouping on the outside for a moment, he was shoved by one of Johnny’s Survivor castmates who was at ringside.

The referee slid out of the ring to calm things, which gave Cage the chance to slide back into the ring and plant Johnny with the Drill Claw.

He went for the pin, but the referee was still on the outside and not there to count the fall. Cage got the referee back into the ring and,in his frustration, looked for an inside-out suplex to finally become the World Champion. Instead, this happened.

More than anything, it feels like they were the victim of trying to be too clever with the finish. Pulling off an inside out suplex like that is already difficult and awkward. To compound that with Johnny somehow rolling through with a timely roll-up, it was just a poor choice.

Things kinda fell to the mat, Johnny scored the pin, and Cage left furious about the way things had ended. Cage’s frustration probably stemmed from having Johnny beat with the Drill Claw earlier, but it seemed to echo the confused annoyance of fans who saw an otherwise great main event overshadowed by an awkward finish. Maybe next time just use a regular roll-up.
