Walking out of the WWE may be one of the biggest career moves for the wrestler formerly known as Adrian Neville. Back in 2017 he was disgruntled with the direction of his character and the division, which caused him to walk out of the promotion. He immediately became one of the most intriguing members of the WWE roster, even though he wasn’t appearing on television. While he missed the revitalization of 205 Live, Neville put himself in a position to become a hot free agent when his contract ended in 2018, and that’s exactly what happened.
Neville returned to Dragon Gate in October and continued his heel gimmick that was started in WWE but ratcheted up the intensity. That led to him winning the Dragon Gate Championship in early December. From there, he’s linked to other organizations in the industry such as Revolution Pro Wrestling and Defiant Wrestling.
What makes Neville so interesting as a free agent is his versatility. In the ring, Neville can work with any type of talent. He can clearly hang with the cruiserweights and their spot-driven style, he can wrestle a technical, ground-based game, and he can match power with a lot of the other athletes in wrestling as well. While Neville was a good face when the time called for it, his ability to excel as a heel has made him even more captivating as a character. We saw a bit of this in NXT before losing the belt to Sami Zayn, but when he went full-fledged heel after his return from injury, that’s when we witnessed the rebirth of his career. That is what makes Neville such an interesting pickup that any new promotion should be interested in signing, even though it will be difficult to pry him away from Dragon Gate since he seems committed to the promotion.
