Increasing Depth For The NXT UK Women
This week two women not in the title picture stole the show for NXT UK when Isla Dawn and Xia Brookside put on a crowd-pleaser of a match. Both of these young ladies have the potential to be big stars in the future, obviously, and I love that the NXT brands continue to find and develop unique talent for the women’s division.
Xia Brookside reminds me a bit of Kelly Kelly, albeit more naturally athletic and perhaps possessing a bit more of a screen presence. Isla Dawn, on the other hand, brings a supernatural touch to the ring that the women’s divisions of WWE have never had, at least to my immediate recollection.
She makes me wish we could revive parts of the Attitude era and suspend our disbelief the way we did with Kane and the Undertaker. But I’m not worried; even if Isla never gets to really practice any cool magic in a modern WWE ring, she’s got the raw talent to make it.
Something about this week’s match between Xia Brookside and Isla Dawn has me looking forward to the immediate future of the brand. Maybe it’s because it shows NXT UK is slowly working on fleshing out its women’s division, because that’s something I’ve become a little concerned about.
I can’t wait to see either of these women lock horns with the likes of Deonna Purrazzo, Jinny, and Killer Kelly as NXT UK moves forward. Time will tell if the trend continues after TakeOver: Blackpool this weekend when Rhea Ripley defends the NXT UK Women’s Championship against Toni Storm.
