Sasha And Nia Bring It

I was not thrilled at last week’s announcement that Alexa Bliss would be getting her own talk show called “A Moment of Bliss.” I hate wrestling talk shows; I mean, I really, really loathe them.

I find them boring to no end, but luckily the first episode of “A Moment of Bliss” was quite brief, and as if WWE set out to prove to me that something fun can actually come out of these things there was a really tense confrontation between Nia Jax and Sasha Banks.

I loved every second of the war of words, too. I won’t get into the profanity slung back and forth right now, but it felt authentic and that’s something that is so painfully missing from the WWE product in modern times.

I legitimately wanted to watch these two fight and the match they had immediately after is one I’ll probably go back to watch again soon.

A Raw Women’s Championship match with Ronda Rousey was on the line and Sasha came out with the win, promising us a never-before-seen bout between The Boss and the Baddest Woman on the Planet at Royal Rumble.

There are several things that stand out to me about this. For one thing, Sasha Banks has been thrust back into the spotlight overnight, right where she belongs. But longer term, this could have major WrestleMania implications and I’m not just referring to who holds the title going in.

This is a match that adds Sasha Banks, and by proxy Bayley, into the drama between Ronda Rousey, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch, thus further opening the doors to an eventual Four Horsewomen versus Four Horsewomen showdown. Could this be the WrestleMania main event?

Though somebody on WWE’s writing staff thinks women are delicate enough that Lana can apparently cripple herself taking the most basic fall and Asuka’s title reign has been dead in the water, a triple threat match on SmackDown and a fantastic bit of storytelling between Sasha Banks and Nia Jax on Raw have helped the main roster women’s division reclaim some of its dignity this week.

I just hope the forward momentum can be maintained going into my second favorite night of the year: the Royal Rumble.
