WWE: Mustafa Ali Is About To Teach Samoa Joe A Lesson About Heart
Mustafa Ali has made quite the impact on the WWE SmackDown roster over the past few weeks, but Samoa Joe wasn’t among those impressed.
With pinfall victories over Andrade “Cien” Almas (yes, I will continue to use his full name whenever possible) and Daniel Bryan (in tag action), Mustafa Ali has quickly risen up the ranks on the WWE SmackDown roster after officially joining the Blue Brand a few weeks ago.
Ali’s sudden ascension was bound to create some friction with the rest of the roster. He’s already made a powerful enemy in the WWE Champion, Bryan, and disgruntled veteran Shelton Benjamin may be next; his seemingly respectful handshake may have been shrouded by ulterior motives.
But perhaps Ali’s most dangerous and jealous enemy is Samoa Joe. The two were supposed to have a singles match together on SmackDown Live this week – after having competed in a Fatal Five-Way match for an opportunity at the WWE Championship, which was eventually won by AJ Styles – but Joe had other plans.
As Ali hopped onto the ropes to soak in the crowd’s loving praise, Joe viciously threw Ali to the mat and began tearing him apart. He wouldn’t stop either, grimacing and smiling simultaneously with sickening pleasure as he threw Ali into the ring posts and the barricade. Ali lay there lifeless, while Joe walked up the ramp with both the officials and Birmingham crowd horrified.

Joe never intended to have a match with Ali. He intended on making a statement, clarifying to Kayla Braxton backstage that this wasn’t even about making a statement to Ali. No, he just used that opportunity to show the 28 other men (Ali and Joe will both be competing in the match) in the Royal Rumble this month what he’s capable of.
The disrespect here is clear. Joe thought so little of Ali as a person and as an in-ring competitor that he viewed the former 205 Live superstar as a mere means to make a statement. He didn’t even view Ali as a stepping stone or a worthy competitor; he simply saw him as a punching bag.
This, of course, is a huge mistake. As Ali has shown time after time, he has more “Heart” than anyone, and he’s taken the fight to some of the best wrestlers in the world. Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy couldn’t beat Ali in a No Disqualification match, and Ali also outlasted Hideo Itami in a heart-stopping “Falls Count Anywhere” match.
Ali is about to teach Joe a lesson about “Heart” and about respect, because he will show Joe what happens when you treat a wrestler like they are less than. Joe and others on the SmackDown Live roster will learn that they cannot take Ali lightly, because he will make them pay. If his pins on Andrade and Bryan didn’t make others take notice, then perhaps a victory against Joe will.
Yes, Ali has plenty of heart and can get the entire audience to believe in him as an underdog, but he’s also shown that he’s capable of showing incredible toughness and viciousness in brutal matches that involve dangerous objects. Perhaps, Joe will witness this first-hand in the coming weeks on SmackDown Live.
