Universal Championship Match: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Finn Balor
For weeks now, the only confirmed match for the Royal Rumble was Brock Lesnar defending his Universal Championship against Braun Strowman. After picking up a win over Baron Corbin at TLC, Strowman earned his chance to take on The Beast Incarnate. Unfortunately, “card subject to change” applies here.
After hunting for Baron Corbin on Raw to seek revenge, Braun Strowman ended up doing severe damage to Vince McMahon’s limo. As a punishment for the attack, he was fined $100,000. When Strowman tried to push back against the fine, Vince followed it up by removing him from the match with Brock Lesnar.
With Strowman out of the picture, the next thing everyone wanted to know was who would be facing Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship. Vince announced a Fatal 4-Way Match to determine the new challenger between John Cena, Drew McIntyre, Finn Balor, and Baron Corbin.
Later in the night, Jinder Mahal found Vince and asked for an opportunity to join that match. He was given the chance to do so if he could defeat Finn Balor, but Mahal came up short against the leader of Balor Club. Instead, Finn went on to the Fatal 4-Way and picked up one of the biggest wins of his career.
This time, Brock Lesnar is up against the man who was the first-ever Universal Champion, but Balor hasn’t held that title in over two years. On top of that, Balor was injured and forced to relinquish the title one night after winning it. He’s now up against a true behemoth in the form of Brock Lesnar.
While I fully expect Finn Balor to put up a hell of a fight against Lesnar and come close to victory, it’s unlikely this is his crowning moment. Instead, Seth Rollins looks poised to be the one to dethrone Lesnar by winning the Royal Rumble and going to WrestleMania. Because of that, my safe pick goes to The Beast Incarnate.
Prediction: Brock Lesnar
