Heading into 2018, Asuka was arguably the hottest superstar in the entire WWE women’s division who seemed destined for quick championship success.  It may have taken a bit longer than most would have liked, but The Empress Of Tomorrow heads into the Royal Rumble 2019 as the SmackDown Women’s Champion.

Asuka captured the gold at TLC back in December in an incredible Triple Threat Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair, but Lynch wouldn’t take that title loss lying down.  The Man won a Triple Threat Match a few weeks ago to earn the right to challenge Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at the Royal Rumble, and that’s where things stand.

This should be a phenomenal matchup between arguably the two hottest superstars in not only the women’s division, but possibly in the entire WWE.  Both seem like great options to walk out of the rumble with the SmackDown Women’s Championship, but when you think about it a bit harder, it seems like The Empress Of Tomorrow should be the one leaving the rumble with the title.

Lynch seems destined for a WrestleMania encounter with Ronda Rousey in some form or fashion.  The seeds have been emphatically planted in recent months and this could be a WrestleMania main event-caliber matchup however it’s done.  That means Asuka keeping the title just makes sense with Lynch’s plans likely involving Rousey.  Not to mention, Asuka is red-hot right now and Lynch could hypothetically still win the women’s Royal Rumble match.

The WWE could make it work regardless, but The Empress Of Tomorrow retaining her SmackDown Women’s Championship against The Man just feels right.
