Stardom Review And Analysis: January 6 in Osaka
Eight Woman Tag: Queen’s Quest vs STARS
On the Queen’s Quest side of the house, we’ve got Konami, Momo Watanabe, Utami Hayashishita, and Bea Priestley, taking on the STARS quartet of Tam Nakano, Saki Kashima, Natsumi, and Alex Gracia. This offers a bit of a preview of another match coming on January 14 as Momo Watanabe will defend her Wonder of Stardom Title against Tam Nakano.
Natsumi, the youngest participant in this match and daughter of Mary Apache, started things off with Utami and things did not go well for her at all. Unable to match Tokyo Sports’ 2018 Rookie of the Year, Natsumi soon found herself being pummeled by every member of the QQ team. It wasn’t until she was able to wiggle away from the grips of Bea Priestley and deliver some quick offense of her own that she could make the tag to Saki Kashima.
Saki was able to hold Queen’s Quest off for a time, but the real meat of the match came when Tam and Momo became legal. We got just a sampling of what is to come on January 14 with both women thrashing one another with kicks and strikes. Both came through with opportunities to put things away and walk into Korakuen with a little extra pep in their step, but just as Tam was building momentum QQ came in to pump the brakes.
In the end, it came down to Momo and Alex Gracia in the ring with Gracia almost catching a roll-up win on the Wonder of Stardom Champion after Tam clobbered her in the head with a roundhouse kick. Unfortunately for STARS, Momo would recover and QQ would come out in full force once again to hold their opponents at bay while Gracia felt the effects of a cross-face chicken wing leading into a Dragon suplex for the finish.
Thoughts: There was so much to watch here and the disorder heightened the excitement as bodies were flying every which way almost the entire length of the match. After the match, Momo and Tam had a quick stare down with Momo flaunting the white belt in her challenger’s face. Momo has reason to be confident as she has been christened the Ace of Stardom, but Tam is going to be looking to kick 2019 off with a bang by adding more gold to the STARS trophy case.
