The New WWE Championship
After slapping a burger out of a backstage employee’s hands, Daniel Bryan walked into the ring with the WWE Championship in his hand – and no Erick Rowan – after retaining the title at the Royal Rumble PPV against AJ Styles thanks to Rowan’s interference.
Bryan asks the WWE Universe if they know who won at the Rumble. The crowd chants “Becky! Becky! Becky!” but Bryan is clearly going for something else. He says that everyone in the audience – and their children – won. Per Bryan, a victory for him is a victory for “every single sentient being” on Earth, because, of course, Bryan is the Planet’s Champion.
And now we’re getting Rowan. Bryan says that he found someone who understands the truth behind his words – someone who came to his aid on Sunday for the greater good. Rowan enters with his classic theme, which is perfect for the enforcer of a hippie environmentalist group.
Rowan is an “Enlightened Man of the Earth” who reads Geoffrey Chaucer and sees through the facade of humanity.
Bryan says that he is indeed a hypocrite, as Styles said last week; he’s a hypocrite for carrying around the WWE Championship. He says that it is excess made from cheap labor and uses the skin of a cow, who had to give its life for this title. Bryan tells the story of the cow “Daisy”, who receives huge chants from the Phoenix crowd.
Man, he’s damn right about this.
Bryan throws the WWE Championship in the trash and brings out a new title, and how can you not love it?
I think we all learned a valuable lesson today.
Apparently the title is made from 100-percent sustainable hemp and a bunch of other cool things, but we don’t get to hear the rest of it, as AJ comes out to address Bryan.
And now Randy Orton is out there, too…And then Jeff Hardy…
Mustafa Ali shows up, too! He addresses the legends in the ring, and before Ali can get into a back-and-forth with Orton, Samoa Joe shows up…
And he absolutely undresses the rest of the wrestlers in the ring with a killer promo. He absolutely carved up Ali and Hardy, and then all hell broke loose when he asked AJ about “Wendy”. Though the show closed with a brawl, Triple H briefly quieted things by informing Bryan that he must defend the WWE Championship against Joe, Ali, Orton, Styles, and Hardy inside the Elimination Chamber next month.
Grade: A, Awesome stuff from Bryan with the new title and the promo, but Samoa Joe stole the show in the end. That dude is amazing.
