WWE: 5 Possible Dream Matches For Kushida In NXT
By Laura Mauro
2. Kushida vs Kyle O’Reilly
As with Ricochet, this is a match we’ve seen several times before. And, as with Ricochet, it’s a match many are desperate to see again.
Kushida’s 2015 Best of the Super Juniors match against O’Reilly was insanely good. It was one of those rare matches that, for some viewers, struck them as instant MOTY material, and if you want to see how fantastic Kyle O’Reilly is when he’s in his element, this is the match to watch. He absolutely shines. There’s a reason I believe O’Reilly to be one of the most underrated wrestlers on the NXT roster.
A technical masterpiece with the perfect amount of back-and-forth, this was an exhilarating bout between two masters of their craft. It’s been said that Kushida spent a good proportion of the match concussed, which, if true, makes the spectacle of it that much more unbelievable. Everything looks crisp and perfectly paced. There are a few high spots, and some downright disgusting-looking strikes, but this one is all about pure, brutal mat wrestling.
Dare I say it…an O’Reilly/Kushida encounter might be too good to give away as a debut. This is one to break out on a special occasion, like a fine wine, or a bottle of champagne. But another BOSJ-calibre match between the two could skyrocket their respective profiles – if Kushida is a babyface star in the making, then this could be the match which secures his future in WWE.
But there’s one last as-yet-unseen encounter that could be even more exciting…
