1. Kushida vs Johnny Gargano

If the Timesplitter is to ascend in time to the position of top NXT babyface – and Kushida more than has the ability to make this jump – then there’s no better way to mark his ascendance than to take down the fallen angel, Johnny Gargano.

Gargano has proven repeatedly that he’s the go-to guy for top quality matches. From Black to Ricochet, from Ciampa to Andrade, he’s left a trail of must-watch bouts in his wake. In terms of size, agility and skill, he’s a perfect match for Kushida, who shines best against fellow Junior Heavyweights.

Gargano’s skillset mirrors Kushida’s: a mix of high-flying offense, well-placed strikes and vicious submission maneuvers, with the added incentive of knocking the smug grin off Gargano’s face.

Kushida’s innate likability makes him an ideal foil for Gargano’s poisonous, deluded ‘Johnny TakeOver’ persona. Build him up with the right amount of babyface fire and the atmosphere will be electric; Gargano, who’ll do just about anything to win, versus Kushida, who rises to every challenge thrown at him with guts and determination. A feud between the two could be the perfect way to establish Kushida’s never-say-die persona.

Kushida is much-decorated veteran of the Junior Heavyweight scene, and there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be flung into the North American Championship scene after a few months of establishing himself.

Assuming Gargano is still champ by that time, Kushida might well be the ideal opponent to prise the title away from him. With a full TakeOver length match at their disposal, these two could easily make magic.
