NXT Championship Match: Tommaso Ciampa (c) vs. Ricochet

Last, but certainly not least, comes the question of who will challenge Tommaso Ciampa for the NXT Championship. With Aleister Black and Velveteen Dream coming up short at recent TakeOver events, it’s time for someone new to take on the self-proclaimed “Greatest Sports Entertainer of All Time.” Perhaps no man is more suited for the task than “The One and Only” Ricochet.

While he wasn’t able to leave Phoenix as the NXT North American Champion, Ricochet’s match with Johnny Gargano was arguably the best of the night. Both fast-paced and brutal at times, it proved once again that Ricochet and Gargano are top-notch athletes. That continued at Halftime Heat, where Ricochet teamed with Velveteen Dream and Aleister Black to take on Gargano, Ciampa, and Adam Cole.

Ricochet was part of the winning side in that match, which was potentially the most watched in NXT history. Once again, the high-flyer impressed the world with his acrobatic skill. Ciampa has gone up against the fast-paced style of Gargano, the hard-hitting offense of Black, and the unorthadox charisma of Dream, but the sheer speed and innovation from Ricochet would be an altogether new challenge.

While WrestleMania 35 will get most of the talk coming out of the weekend, NXT TakeOver: New York will likely follow the path paved by Dallas, Orlando, and New Orleans. On WrestleMania weekend, NXT always steals the show. A marquee main event featuring Tommaso Ciampa defending against Ricochet would certainly fit the bill, and we could even see “The One and Only” do the seemingly impossible and take “Goldie” from Ciampa.
