Wrestling: STARDOM Results And Analysis For February 3 in Shizuoka
Momo Watanabe, Utami Hayashishita, & AZM vs Starlight Kid, Mayu Iwatani, & Tam Nakano
Two of Stardom’s most powerful groups collided with Goddesses of Stardom implications as a STARS/QQ title match is coming down the road. A win for either team here will shift the momentum as that match approaches.
AZM and Kid kicked things off and didn’t get too far in the opening moments. The two wound up in a stand-off after going move-for-move with one another, leading to Queen’s Quest jumping Kid from behind and knocking Mayu and Tam from the apron. The trio pelted Kid in the corner with a series of strikes but couldn’t put away the former Future of Stardom Champion.
Proving that she can do the work of three women, Tam was able to take down all three QQ members after being tagged in by Kid. With a rejuvenated spirit for STARS, Tam turned her focus to Utami Four Belts but was soon overpowered before Momo was tagged back in.
Momo and Mayu found themselves in the ring together and simply beat the crap out of one another with each of them connecting with devastating kicks to the head. Looking to put things away, QQ went back to what they do best and triple-teamed Mayu with Utami’s Torture Rack Drop, a Meteora from Momo, and a bridging pin from AZM broken up by Kid and Tam.
After a crossbody block from Kid wiped everybody out on the arena floor, Tam and Mayu worked over AZM before Mayu locked in a standing dragon sleeper eventually forcing a tapout from the weakened AZM.
Thoughts: Mayu is looking like she hasn’t missed so much as a quarter step since coming back from injury. These six kept the action fast-paced and exciting with some truly crushing strikes and kicks from wrestlers on both sides of the ring.
Despite QQ being perhaps the most solid unit in Stardom, STARS proved that they can absolutely stand with them and even beat them at their own game by double-teaming and triple-teaming their opponents. As a preview for the eventual Goddesses of Stardom match between STARS and Queen’s Quest, this was more than enough to whet a wrestling fan’s appetite.
What’s Next?
Some excellent wrestling matches are still on their way to Stardom World, including a one-on-one clash between Hana Kimura and Konami plus a Queen’s Quest/Oedo Tai trios match from February 9 and a QQ/JAN elimination tag match headlining February 10.
Mayu and Arisa Hoshiki will look to become champions as they eventually challenge Utami and Momo for the Goddesses of Stardom Title, and Oedo Tai has promised a new member will be unveiled. There’s a lot of speculation around who it could be with a lot of people pinning their hopes on the recently-renamed Andras Miyagi who just left Sendai Girls to become a freelancer.
