2. Mustafa Ali

In a way, this can be considered another wild card pick simply because a WWE Championship match is a huge match to give a rookie only two months removed from his main roster debut. Mind you, Mustafa Ali did make his WrestleMania debut – and pay-per-view debut for that matter – wrestling for the Cruiserweight Championship, but this is the WWE Championship we’re talking about; for a relatively new WWE Superstar, no less.

Some will argue that it is just too soon in the young career of Mustafa Ali while others could argue that The Heart of SmackDown Live isn’t familiar enough to the casual fans to have a WWE Championship match at WrestleMania. There’s two counter-arguments for both concerns. The first being simply that Ali is over with the crowd. If he’s over, then it shouldn’t matter if this push was happening too fast for him. The second being that the man has a ready made storyline and stake for the WWE Championship that would make sense on a big stage like WrestleMania.

As we should all remember, a week after Ali debuted on SmackDown, he pinned the WWE Champion clean in the middle of the ring during a tag team match. Shockingly, Ali never received a title match after the fact and was attacked by Bryan the following week. After that, Mustafa Ali’s program with Daniel Bryan abruptly ended and never received closure. Since WrestleMania is the place where storylines are meant to close chapters on textbook storylines, maybe it’s time that the Ali-Bryan saga finally meets an epilogue at WWE WrestleMania 35.
