Randy Orton meets table

To say that Kofi Kingston was never given the opportunity to be a major singles player would be incorrect. Rewind the clock back to 2009. Toward the end of that year, Randy Orton and Kingston would be involved in a bitter feud that would last months.

This angle is one of the few moments in which Kingston was paired, one on one, with one of the biggest names available in the WWE. What he delivered was multiple, highlight-reel moments, such as when he destroyed the new NASCAR vehicle that was created in Orton’s honor or putting him through a table in the crowd.

Kingston picked up key victories in this feud; the biggest of which was perhaps the Survivor Series that year where he led the team of MVP, Mark Henry, Christian, and R-Truth against Orton’s team with CM Punk, Ted DiBiase, Cody Rhodes, and William Regal. Kingston was the sole survivor and the stage was set for what should have segued him into another big-name feud. Instead, he would lose multiple times to Orton in the coming months as the feud fizzled out.

Even though Kingston has been featured in major singles matches since, he has not been given the opportunity to shine in a mainline feud; especially with another player in the title picture. This should be changed, because Kingston has shown that he can shine with the best of them. Imagine if he and Daniel Bryan were given two months to build to a storyline that would end at WrestleMania.

That’s the perfect stage to give Kingston a moment to hold the title above his head with Woods and Big E by his side. Kingston as the champion would give a fresh look to the championship picture that has grown rather stale on SmackDown.
