WWE: The 10 Best Superstars To Never Win A Title In NXT
By Bryan Heaton
9. Nikki Cross
I think Nikki Cross gets overlooked at times because she didn’t do a whole lot of wrestling in NXT. In a little more than two years as “Nikki Cross” between the yellow ropes, she only had two dozen matches. More of her time on the brand was spent as a non-competing, antagonistic member of SAnitY. But considering that many of the matches Cross took part in were above average encounters, I think it’s safe to say she’s one of the more accomplished NXT veterans.
Before getting into her actual matches, it’s important to talk about her “sidekick” work with SAnitY. (Note: I do not think Cross was a sidekick, but there’s no better word for what she was doing since I refuse to call her a “valet.”) Much of the recent WWE trend of leaning into possible intergender wrestling started with Cross. As a deranged lunatic, she had no qualms about attacking any of SAnitY’s foes, man or woman.
Despite all that, though, it’s really Cross’s matches with Asuka and/or Ruby Riott that were the best example of her abilities in NXT. It’s not a stretch to say that the best non-TakeOver NXT match of 2017 was the Last Woman Standing Match for the NXT Women’s Championship between Asuka and Cross. (In fact, I declared it as such in our look back at the year.)
The fact that so many in the WWE Universe were clamoring for Nikki when SAnitY first came up to SmackDown should tell you how good a competitor she is. Her unique blend of wrestling ability combined with her absolutely crazy personality (in the ring) make her a true force to be reckoned with in any wrestling ring.
Sure, she passed through NXT when Asuka was in he midst of her stranglehold on the Women’s Championship, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that Cross could have been a great NXT Women’s Champion.
