Aerostar vs Rey Horus

In the grand tradition of bringing lucha libre to the ECW Arena, Aerostar made his MLW debut against the returning Rey Horus. With big shoes to fill from the days of Rey Mysterio and Psicosis nearly 25 years ago (side note: I’m old), could this pair leave their own indelible mark on professional wrestling?

The two started things off going move for move with one another, trading armdrags and pin attempts before coming to a standstill. Aerostar soon took the first advantage of the match with a precision suicide dive on the arena floor.

Not to be outdone, Horus would come back with a dive of his own over the corner of the ring on the unsuspecting Aerostar below. Horus would enjoy a bit of time on top, but the two found themselves on fairly even footing throughout the majority of the match.

As Aerostar propped himself on the top rope to deliver an attack, Horus used his quickness to scale the ropes and drive his opponent into the canvas with a Cassandro Bomb for the victory.

How was it? Unfortunately, this match was something of a letdown considering the wrestlers involved. I’ve seen enough Aerostar and Horus in the past few years in other promotions to know that they can have some incredible matches, but for some reason, they just didn’t gel here.

Aerostar seemed to be a little wary of the looser ring ropes which may have affected his performance, but overall this match felt more like an exhibition of fun lucha moves rather than a match that had any weight to it.

They didn’t seem to get out of first gear at all which made the ending of the match fall a bit flat. Nothing was patently bad and there weren’t a ton of messy spots or botches, just an unfortunate meeting between two guys who truly do know how to tear the house down.
