Ricochet Immediately Catches Your Attention

Many wrestling fans would agree that story-telling is at the heart of this form of entertainment, because it’s really not a hot take. But I’d wager that some fans underestimate the so-called drawing power of athleticism inside the ring. In other sports, highlight clips of amazing catches, slam dunks, elasticos, and bare-handed double-plays are all the rage, so why wouldn’t a 630 flip carry the same cachet?

Ricochet is so much more than a great athlete inside the squared circle, but his flips and tricks are what immediately make him stand out. Fans can’t help but notice that he’s capable of doing things that others simply can’t, and that quickly puts the spotlight on him. From there, Ricochet can win the crowd over with more traditional aspects of the art-form, such as selling and promos.

His matches with Adam Cole, the Velveteen Dream, and Johnny Gargano at TakeOver specials, for example, featured both incredible athletic feats and top-notch story-telling. His match with Dream recreated moments from Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock, his match with Cole featured a devilish superkick counter from the Undisputed Era’s leader, and his bout with Gargano showcased his entire range of technical wrestling ability.

But Ricochet is most well-known for his acrobatics inside the ring, which he combines with an underrated assortment of power moves. Athleticism is valued by pro wrestling fans, and the fact that Ricochet can take advantage of his athletic gifts by using them to tell a great babyface story in the ring will help set him apart from his peers on the main roster.
