We Need A Babyface Like Ricochet

The WWE main roster is always in need of strong babyfaces, especially those that can be a believable underdog. It’s one thing to have an underdog, typically a smaller wrestler, who consistently comes up short or is forced into an underdog role, but it’s another to have a babyface who is better than most of the other wrestlers on the roster but has to fight to prove that they are the best.

Ricochet has been booked strongly so far in WWE, winning his main roster debut on Raw in a tag match with Intercontinental Champion Finn Balor after having been the second North American Champion. His only televised singles loss, in fact, came at NXT TakeOver: Phoenix in the North American Championship match against Johnny Gargano.

This is a man who has stood toe-to-toe with heavyweights and beaten them, as Triple H and the NXT brass have been careful to ensure that Ricochet would become a major player on the main roster one day as an underdog-type babyface and not one of many voices on 205 Live.

The Rock endorsed Ricochet as a future champion and leader in this company – a story that WWE themselves covered.

Babyfaces tend to have higher ceilings than heels, and while Ricochet could conceivably be a heel at some point in his career, his wrestling style and eagerness make him more suited to be a babyface for the vast majority of his career. He’s someone WWE needs in a top position, and that could allow him to become a key upper mid-carder on Raw before one day becoming a legend in his own right, just as The Rock foreshadowed about a year ago.
