WWE SmackDown: Johnny Gargano vs. Cesaro Sounds Incredible
Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, Ricochet, and Aleister Black have all been called up from NXT to the main roster, and they’ve already taken part in some exciting matches. Tuesday’s battle on WWE SmackDown between Gargano and Cesaro could be the best one yet.
Most recently the NXT North American Champion, Johnny Gargano will have plenty to prove on the main roster. He and Tommaso Ciampa have reunited to form the second coming of DIY, which means they appear to be gunning for a tag team title on either Raw or WWE SmackDown Live.
On this week’s episode of SmackDown, Gargano will be in singles competition, as WWE announced that the “Rebel Heart” will take on the Swiss Cyborg, Cesaro.
Though no titles are on the line, a match between Gargano and Cesaro qualifies as a dream encounter between two of WWE’s best technical wrestlers. Gargano has put on fiery matches with just about everyone he’s faced, including hidden gems on NXT TV against Fabian Aichner.
Cesaro vs. Gargano should be even better than the banger that Gargano vs. Aichner was, because Cesaro has far more experience at this point in his career. One of the strongest wrestlers in WWE, the Swiss Cyborg’s Swing and uppercuts will test every bit of resolve that’s left inside Gargano’s increasingly cold heart.
The “Blackheart” himself, Ciampa, will be in Gargano’s corner for this match, so Cesaro will have Sheamus by his side. Both of these tag teams have years of experience in between them, so it will be interesting to see if Sheamus or Ciampa proves to have the more decisive interference in this match. Ciampa is, of course, the NXT Champion and is theoretically at the top of his game. We’ll see how that plays into the story.
Gargano should be considered the favorite in this match, given his status as the recent North American Champion and the fact that WWE will likely want to make as big of a splash as possible with its big-name NXT call-ups. It’s already had that effect, too, seeing as how both the Raw and SmackDown ratings shot up after Aleister Black, Ricochet, Ciampa, and Gargano all made their ways to the main roster last week.

However, Gargano has been known for his losses, and that’s what made his North American Championship win feel like an even bigger deal. Gargano puts on amazing matches in the ring and gives it his all, but he usually comes up short. So while the smart money is on the newer competitor to pick up a momentum-building win, Cesaro could pick up the win on WWE SmackDown Live this week.
