Roman Reigns is back in WWE after kicking leukemia’s ass for a second time, and wrestling fans are wondering if Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and The Big Dog will team up again this WrestleMania season. Per a recent report, it looks like this could happen as soon as next week.
The Shield have helped define an era of WWE, as Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns formed a brotherhood that has withstood twists, turns, Beasts, championships matches, real-life struggles, and everything else in between. While Ambrose appears to be on his way out of WWE after his contract expires in April, one more Shield reunion would be a welcome site.
POST Wrestling’s John Pollock reports that WWE is planning on reuniting The Shield for a match, with the likely date being Fastlane on Mar. 10 in Cleveland. Seth Rollins won the Men’s Rumble this year and will face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 35, so it appears that Fastlane is the most optimal time for the trio to get back together.
Per Pollock, The Shield’s Fastlane opponents would presumably be against Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre, and Baron Corbin. These are Raw’s top heels, and Corbin has doubled-down on his kayfabe comments diminishing Reigns’s struggle with cancer. These three men are in serious need of comeuppance.
WWE may also add Braun Strowman and Elias, who recently turned heel again, to the match to make it a four-on-four bout. That would get Strowman and Elias – two important members of the Raw roster – on the Fastlane card, but it may also be better to just have The Shield team up without anyone else helping them. Strowman, however, has quite the connection with Reigns after their fiery feuds in 2017 and 2018, so seeing them team up would carry its own benefits.
Though Ambrose betrayed Rollins on that fateful October night when Reigns revealed his battle with leukemia to the WWE Universe, Dean has tried to reconcile with The Shield. He gave Rollins his support against Lesnar a couple of weeks ago, and Reigns and Rollins saved Ambrose on this week’s episode of Raw. They didn’t stick around to help or embrace Ambrose, but a seed for a reunion on next week’s Raw, the go-home show before Fastlane, was planted.
Wrestling fans can’t get enough of The Shield, so, hopefully, we’ll get to see Ambrose, Rollins, and Reigns, the faction’s most central figure, wrestle together this WrestleMania season. If Ambrose does indeed leave WWE, it could be the last time we see these three men on the same page for a few more years.
