In light of Kofi Kingston’s current chase in pursuit for the WWE Championship, we celebrate The New Day’s nearly five year run at the top of the tag team division by chronicling their 10 best matches.

In 2014, Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston, and Big E were all paired up to form a preacher-esque gimmick stable called The New Day. Despite being happy go lucky babyfaces, they were hated by the fans, labeled as corny, and booed mercilessly. They weren’t expected to last long together after failing to get over with the crowd. Five years and five WWE Tag Team Title reigns later, they are the most consistently entertaining act in WWE and arguably in all of sports entertainment.

These guys made the most out of a bad gimmick and transformed themselves into three goofy pals who regularly sprout about their love for unicorns and pancakes. Their success is not only a testament to their ability as characters, but as wrestlers since often times the best part about New Day was the great matches they would put on. To highlight that aspect of the group, here are 10 of the best matches The New Day ever had.

But first, an honorable mention worth mentioning:

Honorable Mention: vs. Roman Reigns & Randy Orton – Raw on May 4, 2015

Mere weeks before bickering babyfaces Roman Reigns and Randy Orton were set to face each other in a Fatal Four Way for the WWE Championship at Payback, they found themselves tangled into a tag team match against The New Day. After some bickering between the babyfaces, the heels got the win when Kofi pinned Randy Orton in what would be The New Day’s biggest win yet as a unit. It would be an understatement to say that The New Day were ecstatic.

Not only did they celebrate their win on their way to the back, New Day would spend the rest of the night celebrating. When another superstar was making their way to the ring, New Day could be seen in the distance celebrating. If someone was being interviewed backstage, New Day could be heard having a good ol’ time off-screen, right before the camera would pan to Xavier and Kofi lifting Big E on their shoulders.

It’s hard provide a “Best of New Day” list and not mention this match. As a match, this one didn’t exactly set the world on fire, but it was the first night that The New Day really clicked for me. The first night where it really dawned on me – and I think a lot of people – that there was something a little more special about these guys that separate them from the average faction. After this night, The New Day started to grow on people and went from being notoriously hated to universally loved.

In a span of one night, The New Day became WWE’s most entertaining act.
