WWE: Ranking The New Day’s Top 10 Matches
8. vs. Anderson & Gallows vs. Sheamus & Cesaro – Raw on December 12, 2016
On Dec. 12, 2016, The New Day was exactly one day away from beating Demolition’s all time record for being WWE’s longest reigning Tag Team Champions. Of course, no accolade like that comes with ease. Not only did they have to fight tooth and nail for the past 400+ days to keep those bronze belts, but on this night, they had to defend their titles against some of the most decorated tag teams to ever step foot in WWE.
At the start of the show, those teams would be the world-renowned Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows and future 5-time WWE Tag Team Champions Sheamus and Cesaro.
The match is best remembered for showing Cesaro deliver an absolutely INSANE comeback spot to end all comeback spots. While that is certainly an unforgettable spot that still amazes us to this day, the match itself was a great one. The only thing that may have hurt the match was that no one believed either team had a chance at beating The New Day before they hit their record – a flaw that would be rectified for the main event later in the night – but for what it was, the match was insanely fun to watch that was filled with a number of memorable spots.Other than Cesaro’s comeback, some fun spots included Cesaro cartwheeling out of a hurricanrana.
The Bar nearly won the match following an Assisted Brogue Kick on Anderson, but Kofi would hit a Trouble in Paradise out of nowhere to retain the titles.
