That aforementioned title match against The Bar and The Club would not be the last time that The New Day would defend their titles that night. After accidentally dumping their cake all over Stephanie McMahon in the midst of their big backstage celebration, the boss demanded that The New Day would defend their championships one last time. Only, their challengers wouldn’t be slouches by any means. Their next challengers would come in the form of four former World Heavyweight Champions; current in then-Universal Champion Kevin Owens’s case.

In theory, it should seem obvious that New Day would be bound to retain their titles. After all, why would WWE not let them beat the all time record when they were just a couple hours away from doing so? Alas, stranger things had happened in WWE and stacking the odds against The New Day by putting them up against four future Hall of Famers made it seem very likely that an upset could be pulled off. This added some much needed stakes into a high octane contest that made for one hell of a nail biter.

Thankfully, all was right in the world when The New Day wound up retaining their titles. About an hour later, when the clock struck midnight, they became WWE’s longest reigning Tag Champs of all time. After the night they had, the trio more than deserved the accolade.
