4. vs. The Wyatt Family – Battleground 2016

One of the more unique storylines that The New Day found themselves tangled in was their far too brief feud with The Wyatt Family. After spending the past couple years goofing around, they faced a stark contrast in the deadly serious and spooky Wyatt clan. What made this feud so interesting is that throughout the whole thing, Xavier Woods was visibly hypnotized and shook by The Wyatt’s presence. It got to the point where he demanded for his buds to take The Wyatts seriously if they wanted to survive their onslaught.

We had no idea if this feud was leading to a New Day breakup or if Woods was on his way to joining The Wyatt Family, but it seemed like a feud with limitless possibilities. It’s debatable about whether or not this was truly New Day’s best feud, but it certainly has to be their most intricate and compelling yet.

Unfortunately, because the WWE Draft would happen immediately following the stable’s first PPV match and seeing as The Wyatts split up as a result of the Draft, the feud between the factions only lasted about a month. If their Battleground match was anything to go off of, they had potential to do tremendous in-ring work together.

The match itself was superbly story driven. The whole time, Xavier Woods seemed too afraid – almost entranced – by Bray Wyatt to step in the ring with them. This forced Big E and Kofi Kingston to pull the work load themselves for a duration of the match. That is, until the match’s closing moments when Woods was finally able to face his fears head on. The pop he received upon storming the ring to wail on Wyatt was truly incredible. We really wish these all these guys had a chance to do more together before the Draft.
