Yesterday we saw the war of words between Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey reach new heights on Twitter, but a meme by Lynch led to someone entering the conversation that few could have predicted. Tommy Wiseau, the mysterious director of The Room, chimed in on Twitter and notified WWE’s own Vince McMahon he would introduce Becky Lynch for a match.

To know how Tommy Wiseau found his way into a discussion between WWE superstars, we first have to look back at Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey’s most recent Twitter exchange. Rousey has continued to go back and forth with Lynch on Twitter, but rarely comes out on the better end of the exchange.

Yesterday’s discussion actually got rolling on February 26, when Becky Lynch posted a collection of mugshot from her arrest during WWE Raw this week. Fans know we’re watching a television show, and that Becky Lynch wasn’t really arrested, but that’s not the point. Wrestling is about allowing for the suspension of disbelief so you can enjoy the story, like any other entertainment medium.

Despite that, former UFC fighter and current (as far as we know) Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey has continued to call out wrestling as “fake” on Twitter and push the boundaries of reality. It’s not a tactic that’s endeared her to a fanbase that was already starting to turn on her, which makes Rousey’s decision extra questionable.

Since taking on the persona of “The Man,” Lynch has taken on a new attitude that has been accompanied by a high level of skill at maneuvering social media. When Rousey tried to call out Lynch for “taking fake prison photos in the hallway,” the response from fans wasn’t exactly positive.

The next day, Becky Lynch fired back with as sharp a reply as she usually does, this time utilizing a meme featuring Tommy Wiseau. For those who don’t know Wiseau, he was the director of the 2003 film The Room. Despite the growing popularity and cult status of the film, it’s been widely regarded as one of the worst films ever made. James Franco produced, directed, and starred as Wiseau in a 2017 biographical comedy about the making of The Room.

While the film poked fun at the flaws in The Room, it also heavily chronicled the mysterious life and personality of Tommy Wiseau. While not a part of professional wrestling, Tommy Wiseau certainly would fit as he’s essentially kept up the kayfabe of his persona without missing a beat. Most of the personal details about Wiseau, including his age and background, are still unverified to this day.

Being able to keep things like that secret while being a public figure is a task most great wrestlers can appreciate. Just prior to the release of The Disaster Artist in 2017, Entertainment Weekly published an interview with Wiseau that was conducted in 2008. In the interview, Wiseau was asked point-blank about his decision to remain unclear and mysterious about his background. His answer was simple.

"“Let me tell you this way: I think private life should be private life, the professional life should be the professional life, and that’s where I stand, and I have right to do that. [sic]”"

Following the critical success of The Disaster Artist and rising cult status of The Room, Wiseau has re-entered the public sphere and been willing to poke fun at himself online. He was even featured in a comedy sketch produced by Nerdist where Wiseau portrayed Heath Ledger’s character The Joker from The Dark Knight. Wiseau’s 233,000+ Twitter followers show that there are plenty of people interested in what he has to say.

All of this made things that much more interesting when Wiseau suddenly interjected himself yesterday into Rousey and Lynch’s conversation. Lynch had taken a shot at Rousey’s struggle with microphone work via the following tweet, which is a doctored scene from The Disaster Artist where the character of Tommy Wiseau struggles to get even the simplest line right during filming.

It was another masterful move by Lynch on social media that cut close to the bone about one of Rousey’s biggest weaknesses, but few could have predicted Tommy Wiseau’s very direct reply after he was used to poke fun at Rousey.

The offer has now been laid down, and WWE should absolutely accept. With WrestleMania 35 right around the corner and a potential triple threat between Becky Lynch, Ronda Rousey, and Charlotte Flair being built to main event the show, the timing couldn’t be more perfect.

More from WWE

WWE is no stranger to celebrity appearances, especially at WrestleMania. They tend to vary from year to year, but over the top entrances at WrestleMania continue to be the trend. WWE could not only cross into other parts of entertainment and draw outside eyes by featuring Wiseau, but an introduction by a cult icon would give Becky Lynch a truly unforgettable WrestleMania entrance.

There’s also a similarity between Lynch and Wiseau that’s hard to miss once you notice it. Tommy Wiseau made a film that was heavily criticized, was not a commercial success, but as time went on the sheer force of his fans supporting his skill and creativity turned him into one. Becky Lynch was not taken seriously by WWE, but the sheer force of her fans supporting her skill and creativity turned her into the star we see today.

In a weird way, these two cult icons are a perfectly odd pairing for WrestleMania. With a little over a month to go before WrestleMania 35 comes to MetLife Stadium, anything could happen during that time. If Vince McMahon wants to draw outside eyes, give us an unforgettable moment, and capitalize on the popularity of both Becky Lynch and Tommy Wiseau, he should accept this offer and make it happen at WrestleMania.
