The story of the WWE WrestleMania main event revolves around Becky Lynch, and that’s what matters.

Ronda Rousey’s villainous turn at the conclusion of WWE Raw threw another obstacle in front of The Man on her journey to the top of the WrestleMania mountain.

Just 36 days separated Becky Lynch’s roof-raising Royal Rumble victory and Rousey’s attack on Monday night, and the path in between has been anything but smooth for The Irish Lass Kicker. From injury to suspension to now needing to defeat Charlotte Flair at Fastlane to get her title opportunity, Lynch has learned the hard way what it’s like to swim against the tide in a battle against the McMahons.

The twists and turns in this story have felt less like the road to WrestleMania – and more like navigating through the windy lanes of the English countryside.

Heel turns by Charlotte and Ronda Rousey have thrown curveballs in The Man’s direction, but make no mistake, this is Becky’s story. And WrestleMania 35 will play host to her career-defining moment.

Every layer of storytelling to this point leads back to Becky.

It was The Man who shattered a longtime friendship with Charlotte to kickstart arguably the greatest rivalry of 2018.

And in the lead-up to an epic showdown with Rousey at Survivor Series, it was, again, The Irish Lass Kicker who made it personal, from a war of words on Twitter to invading Raw with a brutal backstage beatdown of the red brand’s champion.

Charlotte and Ronda won’t be described as “best buddies” any time soon, but now positioned as heels, it’s possible they will unite with one shared goal: to take Becky out of the WrestleMania main event.

All three Superstars have more than played their part in the most anticipated match on the card — and certainly one that should go on last — but Becky Lynch is the heartbeat of this story. And with both of her opponents turning heel in recent months, this is now clearer than ever.

Parallels are plentiful between Lynch and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, but you only have to rewind five years to find a more apt comparison to Becky’s rise to stardom. And that’s Daniel Bryan.

Never meant to be anything close to a top-of-the-card attraction, let alone crowned WWE Champion in the main event of all main events, Bryan’s unique connection to the crowd gave the WWE no choice. Sound familiar?

And just how Batista quickly became “Bootista”, it’s hard to imagine a Ronda heel turn was in the early WrestleMania drafts a few months ago. It’s also fair to predict the plan was initially a one-on-one match between Rousey and Flair, just as Batista was originally set to challenge Randy Orton in a single’s match at WrestleMania 30.

Like Bryan, Becky has to fight through injury and defeat one of the best in the business just to make it a triple threat match on the WWE’s grandest stage.

Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey both deserve a ton of credit for the build.

Flair’s arrogance on the microphone makes her the perfect antagonist for Becky, and a character the fans want to boo, which in the age of “smart fans” and “cool heels” isn’t easy to accomplish.

Rousey’s aggression and intensity on Monday night was perfect, making for uncomfortable viewing as she cemented her role as a villain.

In the past few months, all three Superstars have taken on heel roles. But to the WWE’s credit, they’ve been more than willing to correct course and go with the fans.

Lynch is who we want to get behind. Her rise to the top has been organic, unpredictable and every moment she’s on TV provides unmissable drama.

This is Becky Lynch’s story. It’s been a rocky road to WrestleMania, but the destination is in sight. And in perhaps the defining moment in each star’s respective WWE career, there’s only one rightful conclusion — The Man standing tall in front of 80,000 fans as the new Raw Women’s Champion.
