With a build to WWE Fastlane that’s already featured a number of shocking moments, could the actual show itself provide a twist of it’s own in the form of a returning Sami Zayn?

Ronda Rousey turned heel, Kofi Kingston earned a WWE Championship match only to be replaced by a returning Kevin Owens, and Batista returned to call out Triple H all on the build for WWE Fastlane.

If that kind of track record doesn’t scream building hype for WrestleMania to you, I don’t know what would.

Since it’s fairly clear that Fastlane has, in a way, lived up to it’s moniker already by rapidly building up the excitement levels for WrestleMania, it begs the question of what twists and turns we should be expecting at the show itself now.

One of those twists, unsurprisingly, could be perfectly positioned to occur in that Kevin Owens invaded WWE Championship match with Daniel Bryan.

After all, it’s important to remember that It wasn’t too long ago when a return vignette aired on Raw for noted KO associate Sami Zayn:

While Zayn has been out of commission in WWE for quite some time now, we already know thanks to a report by Mike Johnson of PWInsider that Zayn has been working towards his in-ring return.

With that in mind, I have to ask, what better time and place would there be for Sami Zayn to return then at WWE Fastlane to help his old frenemy even the odds against Daniel Bryan and Rowan?

Even though I can only speculate on such a sensational return, it just seems as though that mere possibility would make too much sense to ignore.

Sami Zayn is no stranger to surprise returns to aid Kevin Owens. It was not too long ago that Zayn made a separate return to WWE at Hell In A Cell to help Owens vanquish Shane McMahon.

In that instance though, part of the shock of his return was the fact that the previously upstanding Zayn had turned heel to help the man who had been his greatest rival thus far. As a result, that led us down the road of Zayn and Owens partnering together to be the collective thorns in the side of WWE’s top stars.

It was a role that Owens and Zayn only got better in as time went by. In fact, there were times when you could have made the case that, between their entertaining heel promos and exciting in-ring work, the pair were two of the most entertaining members of the WWE roster.

However, the entire time Zayn and Owens were gallivanting around WWE as heels, I still couldn’t help but feel that Zayn would be better off back as a face. He had just too many outstanding moments as the face of NXT for me to truly buy-in to the nefarious side of Zayn.

Now, with Owens already having seemingly turned over a new leaf, WWE has the opportunity to have Zayn return in that face role he seemed practically born to play when he was in NXT.

Zayn, as the scrappy underdog, can rush out at WWE Fastlane to help his pal fight off a seemingly insurmountable double team from a crazed champion and his hulking brute of a sidekick.

It would almost assuredly be one of the biggest pops of the night, and could propel Zayn into a solid run on the blue brand heading into WrestleMania.

While we still definitely don’t know for sure how and when Sami Zayn will return to WWE, the possibility of a surprise appearance at Fastlane is something fans might ought to keep an eye out for considering how great of an opportunity it could be.
