Alex Hammerstone vs Isaias Velazquez
In Hammerstone’s second appearance in MLW we got more of the same of what we saw in his debut against Ariel Dominguez. Velazquez used his considerable speed and agility advantages to try to outwrestle Hammerstone early on, but the massive newcomer put a stop to his momentum quickly.
After catching a Velazquez dive attempt outside of the ring, Hammerstone delivered a powerbomb on the ring apron before slowing the pace down further inside the ring.
It was only a matter of time before Hammerstone dropped Velazquez with the Nightmare Pendulum to pick up his second win in a Major League Wrestling ring.
How was it? Another solid showing from Hammerstone who gets to showcase his size and strength against a smaller opponent. The Chicago crowd responded well to a stalling vertical superplex as well as his finisher which always looks brutal.
I am looking forward to what Hammerstone can do against an opponent closer to his size and style. Being in the ring with smaller, faster opponents creates a fun dynamic but not everybody on the MLW roster is a Dominguez or Velazquez. It remains to be seen if Hammerstone will be able to hold his own against the likes of Pentagon Jr, Tommy Dreamer, or Tom Lawlor.

Light Beers and Los Parks
Through a series of backstage segments, the coming Death Match between Mance Warner and LA Park was built.
First, we came across Kaci Lennox attempting to get a word with Salina de la Renta following Low Ki’s loss to Tom Lawlor in last week’s cage match. de la Renta didn’t have much to say and, as she turned a corner, spotted Mance Warner who accidentally spilled his beer on her.
Ol Mancer tried to make things right by offering his tattered American flag bandana to the head of Promociones Dorado but she was having none of it and stormed off.
Later on, Mance was back enjoying his light beers with Hijo de LA Park jumped him for his prior transgressions. The two fought off-screen until Brian Pillman Jr, in a towel, popped in to snatch Mance’s abandoned can of beer.
Finally, as de la Renta made her way through a backstage corridor a beaten Hijo de LA Park stumbled into the hallway prompting an enraged Salina to make an angry phone call to right the wrongs of the evening.
How was it? Some good and simple storytelling over the course of the show. de la Renta certainly seems like the kind of person to overreact to having beer spilled on them by enlisting a living, breathing skeleton man for a Death Match.
This also gives Ol Mancer much more of a place in MLW. Instead of having what seemed like a random Death Match with LA Park, as it was booked weeks ago for Intimidation Games, there now is motivation for the bout with Mance smack dab in the center of a storyline with MLW’s top faction after just a few weeks with the promotion.
