WWE: Watch Out Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection, The IIconics Are Waiting
By Kyle Boris
With all the chaos surrounding the Women’s Tag Team Championships after the events at WWE Fastlane, it’s tough to predict who will get the next chance to challenge the Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection. Nia and Tamina, Beth Phoenix and Natalya, and even the NXT team of Kairi Sane and Io Shirai should all be considered in the mix. However, all of these teams have one thing in common that should keep them from getting the next shot: they are not IIconic.
When Sasha Banks and Bayley became the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, they promised to defend their titles everywhere, including Raw, SmackDown Live, and NXT. The pair has obviously appeared on Raw since then and has even showed up on NXT, but the duo has yet to take their talents to SmackDown Live. This is problematic because there is an established team in The IIconics waiting for their arrival.
Billie Kay and Peyton Royce did of course compete in the Elimination Chamber with a chance to bring home the gold, but that didn’t go according to plan. However, a longer program with Banks and Bayley should and could be on the horizon.
If for some reason you didn’t think that tag gold was on the minds of Kay and Royce, well then you are sadly mistaken. On the first (and maybe last) episode of WWE Watch Along hosted by Pat McAfee, he had a number of guests show up to watch WWE Fastlane with him with their reactions being broadcasted to the entire WWE Universe.
It was a welcoming idea that provided laughs from Heavy Machinery, insight from D-Von Dudley and Christian, and everything in between from Alexa Bliss. To no one’s surprise, however, the real stars of the show were The IIconics.

Whether it be their constant disdain for fellow guest Sam Roberts or laughing at so many teams having issues, Kay and Royce continued to showcase their one-of-a-kind personalities. That being said, things got real serious real quick when the Women’s Tag Team Championships were brought up. Kay and Royce were not afraid to share their opinion on the entire situation.
“They’ve never come to SmackDown. We’ve been waiting for weeks. They’re just scared of us…We don’t blame them for not coming ’cause we’d whoop their ass.”
I mean, whoa.
If that doesn’t get you fired up for a potential feud between both teams then I don’t know what will. Actually, I do. Here’s more from Billie Kay.
“You can bank on that you suckkkkkkk!”
Now obviously, since being called up, The IIconics haven’t picked up as many wins inside the ring as they’d like, but they have consistency shown that they can handle the microphone and get the audience’s attention. With time, the wins will start to pile up as they get more opportunities.
There’s a lot of excitement surrounding the Women’s Tag Team Championships right now and I’m sure Banks and Bayley will do a great job of making the titles relevant, but it will take more than just their expertise in the ring to make that happen. Sports entertainment is not only about the sport, but also about, yep you guessed it, the entertainment.
The Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection needs a rival that can go toe-to-toe in the ring and toe-to-toe on the mic. They need a team that can get the fans invested in their mutual hatred for each other. They need a tandem that they can get in the ring with at any time and fans will know they’re getting something great. They need a team that is IIconic.
