1. Kofi Kingston And Mr. McMahon Segment

Who would have ever thought a year ago that Kofi Kingston would be arguably the biggest story heading into WrestleMania 35?  That is where things stand at the moment with the elder statesman of The New Day, who has been on a meteoric rise over the past month.

Kofi greatly impressed in a gauntlet match on the pre-Elimination Chamber episode of SmackDown, nearly won the WWE Championship inside the Elimination Chamber, and pinned The New Daniel Bryan to earn a title opportunity at Fastlane.  However, the system has been against Kofi in recent weeks, which led to him being replaced at Fastlane and looked down upon by Mr. McMahon.

The typically laid back New Day was not in a festive mood last night and they began the night by attacking all four teams involved in the eight-man tag team match.  This was in anticipation of Mr. McMahon’s WrestleMania offer to Kofi later in the night, which was one of the best segments seen on WWE TV in a while.  The New Day was serious and this felt more like a shoot than a wrestling promo, but it got even better when Kofi began talking.

Mr. McMahon said Kofi isn’t worthy of a WWE Championship opportunity and that he’s a B-plus player, but that didn’t stop him from keeping it real with the boss.  He gave the promo of his career in a passionate, real-life twist that was even a bit emotional.  Mr. McMahon left things by saying if Kofi can defeat Randy Orton, Samoa Joe, The Bar, and Rowan in a gauntlet match next week, he will earn a WWE Championship opportunity at WrestleMania 35.

The deck continues to be stacked against Kofi, but that should only help the storytelling out moving forward after this phenomenal segment last night.
