Last night on 205 Live, both Cedric Alexander and Tony Nese advanced to the finals of the tournament to decide who will face Buddy Murphy for the Cruiserweight Championship at WrestleMania. The finals will take place next Tuesday and while Cedric remains the favorite, Nese should win it all.

Following his big win again Drew Gulak, WWE posted an Instagram video promo of Tony Nese’s reaction to being one step closer to the Grandest Stage of Them All.

WrestleMania 35 will take place in the New York/New Jersey region, meaning that Nese has a chance at winning gold in his homestate. Whether he should win or not is up for debate, but he certainly deserves a chance to make his presence known at WrestleMania this year. Giving the crowd a local hero to root for is exactly what the Cruiserweight Championship match needs to get the crowd invested into the match.

205 Live is a show that has been admittedly under the radar these past couple years, which explains why the crowd started off so quiet for the CW Title match last year; most casual fans simply didn’t know who Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali were going into the match. Granted, their chemistry was so undeniable that it didn’t take long to get the crowd into the match, but if WWE want the crowd invested from the start for this year’s CW match, Nese might be the way to go.

Even if casuals go into the match not knowing who either Murphy or Nese are, the crowd will surely erupt for a pop as soon as they hear where Nese is billed from. Knowing that they could see a guy representing their own state should be enough to get the crowd invested into the match from beginning to end.

Beyond locations, Tony Nese should win the tournament finals next week simply because he’s earned it following a long and dedicated journey on 205 Live thus far. The Premier Athlete has competed on the purple brand ever since the show’s debut episode. Yet, in 3+ years time, he has never had a single shot at the brand’s top title. He has seldom even been featured on pay-per-view, with his last PPV match dating back to a brief appearance during the Greatest Royal Rumble. Before that, a Kickoff match for Survivor Series in 2016.

The past year has seen Nese receive something of a mini-push where he won feuds against the likes of Noam Dar and surprise upsets against Cedric Alexander. Nese has proven time and time again that he has the stuff for a main event push on the purple brand and with WrestleMania being in his homestate, it is time to pull the trigger on him.

Next. The Women's Fatal Four-Way match at TakeOver will be awesome. dark

Cedric Alexander had his time in the sun during last year’s WrestleMania and there is no doubt that he will have plenty shining moments for his WWE career going forward. Whereas there’s no telling when the next time Nese could get such a big opportunity like this again. It’s time strike now while the iron is hot and give Nese a WrestleMania moment that his state could be proud of.
