As Bayley & Sasha Banks, The Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection, continue to put forward their goal of challenging all comers for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, one legendary duo could be their perfect challengers. Imagine Bayley & Banks taking on Team Bestie, Trish Stratus & Lita.

Since capturing the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles at Elimination Chamber, Sasha Banks and Bayley have made it clear they’re ready to take on challengers from all brands. They even made an appearance in their old stomping grounds of NXT to extend the offer to that brand as well. While main roster teams like The IIconics and The Riott Squad would be great challengers, there’s another legendary team that comes to mind.

Team Bestie, consisting of Trish Stratus and Lita, returned at Evolution in a fantastic tag team match against fellow veterans Mickie James and Alicia Fox. The team even followed it up by participating in a 10-woman tag team match the next night on Raw. They’ve proven they’ve still got the skill inside the ring, but would they be up for another return?

WWE Hall of Famer Lita held a Fan Q&A at Louisiana Comic Con this weekend in Lafayette, LA. She was asked by two separate fans during the event about the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles, and who she would team with if she could come back and go after them. Lita immediately brought up longtime friend, rival, and fellow WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus.

Not only did Lita explain Stratus as her choice, but she expressed a willingness to make such a return if the opportunity presented itself. Whether WWE would decide to bring them back for a run at the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles is still completely up in the air, but it feels like a possibility thanks to the recent return of Beth Phoenix.

More from WWE

Phoenix, herself a WWE Hall of Famer, did commentary for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Title match at Fastlane. A confrontation at ringside with Tamina and Nia Jax, who failed to capture the titles from Sasha Banks and Bayley, turned violent in the blink of an eye. It was none other than Natalya who came out to save her friend, although her effort only earned her a beatdown as well.

Natalya and Beth Phoenix are longtime friends, and even competed as a tag team known as The Divas of Doom in 2011 and 2012. WWE was still all in on the branding of female competitors as “divas” and emphasized certain stereotypes of women that didn’t apply to Phoenix and Natalya. Thus, they formed a group and dubbed themselves The Divas of Doom.

Now we’re seeing a return of this classic duo, and Team Bestie might not be far behind. One of the things Lita emphasized while discussing the Women’s Tag Team Titles was the importance of having a deep partnership and chemistry. Sasha Banks and Bayley, as well as The IIconics, have years of friendship that lends itself to that, whereas teams like Nia Jax and Tamina have been together for a much shorter period of time.

There may be no better example of that potential chemistry than Team Bestie. Trish Stratus made her WWE debut only one month after Lita. Both were relatively new to the industry when coming to WWE, and followed a different but paralleled path. Trish Stratus retired in September of 2006, having her final match with Lita. Only two months later, Lita followed suit and retired after facing Mickie James in her final match.

Having run nearly their entire careers side by side, including returns in the first Women’s Royal Rumble Match and at Evolution, Team Bestie would be an ideal choice to face The Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles.
