WWE: Ranking Becky’s 10 Greatest Moments Ahead Of WrestleMania 35
10. “I fought to be a champion”
Long before Becky Lynch became The Man, she led the way as the blue brand’s inaugural Women’s Champion. Her first pay-per-view challenge came against rising-star Alexa Bliss.
Two weeks before their showdown at No Mercy, Lynch and Bliss met on SmackDown Live, making the match official with a live contract signing.
An injury forced Lynch out of the match at the pay-per-view, but the build was fantastic, capped off by Becky’s passionate promo.
With the spotlight on, The Irish Lass Kicker proved she was more than ready to lead the women’s division on Tuesday nights, delivering one of the finest promos of her career.
Bliss claimed that Lynch wasn’t deserving of the top spot on SmackDown Live and that she wasn’t “born to be a champion”.
Lynch initially agreed. No, she wasn’t born to be a champion. But Becky then shifted the promo into another gear, firing back at Bliss with an inspiring speech about her journey to the WWE, closing out with an emphatic statement:
“I was not born to be a champion. I fought to be a champion.”
When rewatching promos like this one, it’s hard to understand why it took so long for the WWE to give Becky Lynch the opportunity to become the division’s centerpiece once again.
