WWE Raw hosts a Beat the Clock Challenge

WWE Raw got going with Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey, who grabbed a microphone and had a few select words. She first addressed the news that the Raw Women’s Championship Match between Rousey, Becky Lynch, and Charlotte Flair will be the main event of WrestleMania. Rousey simply said “you’re welcome” to the fans for that.

Rousey then picked back up the microphone she’d just dropped and then stated she would tap out both Lynch and Flair at the same time at WrestleMania, and “that’s all [she] has to say about that.” Except it wasn’t, because Rousey had one more comment.

As WWE Raw came on the air, and Rousey was on her way to the ring, it was announced that there would be a Beat the Clock Challenge with Lynch, Flair, and Rousey each facing a member of The Riott Squad. Rousey spouted off a comment about the Beat the Clock Challenge being some “stupid gimmick.”

The Riott Squad made their way to the ring, but Becky Lynch came out before the match began. Lynch claimed that Rousey’s position and the main event are only because of what Becky has done, and Charlotte Flair wasn’t far behind to put in her two cents.

Flair made her opinion clear and stated they got the main event of WrestleMania because of Flair’s hard work over the last 7 years, not Rousey’s last year or Lynch’s last six months. With everyone’s points made, it was finally time for the challenge to begin.

Rousey was up first against The Riott Squad’s Sarah Logan. The match got rolling pretty quickly as Logan fled to the outside and tried to bide as much time as possible, but it only took 1 minute and 25 seconds for her to tap out to Rousey’s armbar. It set a blistering pace that Charlotte Flair was next to take on the group’s leader, Ruby Riott.

Flair fought hard against Riott, despite Riott getting close to a pinfall early on. Flair regained control and managed to lock Riott in the Figure Eight with only seconds left. Ruby looked close to tapping out, but held on just long enough for Flair to fail to Beat the Clock. In her frustration after that failure, Flair also delivered a stiff big boot to Becky Lynch just before Lynch began the challenge.

A slightly damaged Becky Lynch got back to her feet and readied to face Liv Morgan. Things got off to another fast start, but Becky Lynch took a different tactic than her WrestleMania opponents. After some back and forth, Lynch got Morgan in a jackknife pin for a sudden win with only 7 seconds left on the clock.

With that win, Becky Lynch won the Beat the Clock Challenge and carries that momentum moving forward towards the main event of WrestleMania 35, much to the disdain of Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey.

Grade: B+, Rousey’s promo to start fell flat, but she was getting great heel heat from a crowd that despised her. Lynch and Flair’s promo helped, and the Beat the Clock Challenge was also solid. This was a good step for these three, even if it wasn’t groundbreaking.
