The WWE Universe came into tonight’s episode of SmackDown Live praying that Kofi Kingston would finally be added to the WrestleMania 35 title match against Daniel Bryan, and they were not disappointed.

Kofi Kingston has been the biggest story among the men in WWE over the past couple of months, and the support for #KofiMania has been simply overwhelming. But with Kofi’s incredible body of work built up over 11 years – and zero one-on-one title opportunities to show for it – it’s safe to say that this incredibly organic support from the WWE Universe has been a long time coming.

Clearly, Kofi has earned an opportunity at Daniel Bryan’s WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35. Not only did he shine brightly in a Gauntlet Match in February before taking Bryan to the limit inside the Elimination Chamber, but he also won a loaded up Gauntlet Match before Vince announced Bryan as a surprise opponent at the end, simply to pull the rug out from underneath Kofi.

On tonight’s episode of SmackDown, though, Kofi’s destiny wasn’t in his own hands. Instead, Vince forced his tag team partners, Xavier Woods and Big E, to fight for Kofi in a Tag Team Gauntlet Match against The Club, Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev, The Bar, The Usos, and Bryan and Rowan.

Woods and E, who started the night stating that they were contemplating quitting after witnessing all the injustices thrown at Kofi by Vince over his entire career, were on absolute fire. With all the babyfaces cheering them on backstage and the WWE Universe fully behind them, Woods and E showed why they are two of the best tag team wrestlers in WWE history.

They beat The Club in seconds before outlasting Nakamura and Rusev and The Bar – two tag teams who helped ambush The New Day at Fastlane as part of Vince’s evil plan to take Kofi out of the title picture.

But the Power of Positivity was always destined to win out, no matter how many obstacles would be thrown the trio’s way. The Power of Positivity, too, helped New Day greatly in their Gauntlet Match tonight, because when the most formidable opponents in the division, The Usos, were up next, Big E and Woods received a lifeline after being worn-out from defeating three world-class teams.

Jimmy and Jey have the utmost respect for The New Day after their wars together, as the two tag teams have stolen the show many times over on Pay Per View, perhaps most notably in a brutal Hell in a Cell match in 2017. The Usos weren’t about to stand in the way of The New Day, and they forfeited, buying Woods and E some extra time while also preventing them from having to take on arguably the world’s best tag team.

Getting their second win and more motivated than ever after the heart-warming show of respect from The Usos, Big E and Woods took on an irate Bryan and Rowan in the final Gauntlet Match. And when Big E buried Rowan underneath the announce table and ran back into the ring, the WWE Universe screamed the “10” count with the official with baited breath, praying that Kofi would finally get his opportunity at the WWE Championship.

It happened. New Day won, and Vince finally relented by telling Kayla Braxton, before entering his limousine, that Kofi would indeed get his chance to prove that he isn’t a “B-plus player” at WrestleMania 35.

Next. Daniel Bryan has become everything he fought against. dark

The Power of Positivity has stayed with The New Day and the WWE Universe for years, but it has never been more critical than in these past couple of months on the road to #KofiMania. Though Kofi has secured this long-earned opportunity, it is up to us to continue cheering and spreading the Power of Positivity, because Kofi’s battle to the championship isn’t done yet.
