AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton

For many wrestling fans, this is a dream match pitting two of WWE’s best superstars who have been on completely different roads to the company against each other. Randy Orton’s heel character has been built up perfectly for a WrestleMania feud against a former “indy darling” in AJ Styles, who made a name for himself as the face of TNA before becoming an IWGP Heavyweight Champion in NJPW, later signing on with WWE at the 2016 Royal Rumble.

Styles has undoubtedly enjoyed a great deal of success in WWE. In his first year with the company, he defeated John Cena at SummerSlam and carried that momentum with a tremendous feud with Dean Ambrose for the WWE Championship to help build SmackDown Live into the brand that it is today. And his second reign as champion was lengthier than the first, and included feuds with Shinsuke Nakamura and Samoa Joe.

Of course, Orton has been an important member of SmackDown for longer than Styles, and he proudly didn’t have to fight his way on the independent scene in order to become one of the most decorated wrestlers in his story. He’s done as much as possible to play this up in promos with Styles, including a heated segment on the “Kevin Owens Show” that reached a breaking point when “The Phenomenal One” brought up Orton’s failed drug tests in the past.

This match could easily go either way, as both men seem primed for a big win. We’ve seen Styles retain the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, one year after Orton won that same title off of Bray Wyatt. Vince McMahon woke up the animal in Styles, but that may not be enough against Orton, who will likely bring his absolute best against an opponent he’s motivated to face.

Prediction: Randy Orton
