WrestleMania 35 Wish List: A Focus On The Future (For The Most Part)
By John Brown
1. Brock Lesnar defeats Seth Rollins
Allow me to steal the legitimate heat not being soaked in by Baron Corbin. My final WrestleMania wish is for Brock Lesnar to beat Seth Rollins and keep the WWE Universal Championship.
This will mark the second consecutive year in which a Royal Rumble win is going to be completely inconsequential due to the main focus being elsewhere.
Shinsuke Nakamura’s challenging of AJ Styles’s WWE Championship was overshadowed by the debut of Ronda Rousey, the return of Daniel Bryan, and Roman Reigns wanting to rid WWE of Brock Lesnar’s part-time death-grip. There was no room for Nakamura to have his moment, and this theme is repeating itself again this year.
Seth Rollins wanting to remove the aforementioned death-grip is inspirational, but is secondary to the women main-eventing WrestleMania for the first time and the culmination of Kofi Kingston’s 11-year quest for redemption.
If Seth Rollins (or anyone else) is going to “slay the beast”, it needs to be the centerpiece of the show. It simply would not be close to the centerpiece this year.
Brock Lesnar being slayed in a “David vs. Goliath” context needs to be the central focus of a show in order for the audience to have their disbelief suspended; fans should be paying knowing this show is showcasing the night Brock Lesnar falls.
The context deserves that amount of focus, Brock Lesnar deserves that amount of focus, and a deserving workhorse like Seth Rollins certainly deserves that focus. If Seth would win, his victory would get lost in the historical weight that comes with this year’s WrestleMania card.
As someone who wants to see the fall of Brock Lesnar carry the most weight possible, I wish for Seth Rollins to lose on Sunday.
