WWE WrestleMania 35 Rebook: No Brock Lesnar, But A Shield Triple Threat
By Tom Colohue
1. Ronda Rousey vs Becky Lynch
Raw Women’s Championship
No games. No tricks. Having won the Royal Rumble, Becky Lynch comes out on the Monday Night Raw afterwards and challenges Ronda Rousey to a match at WWE WrestleMania 35. The match is then on and is announced as the main event a week later.
Becky Lynch does not appear again on Raw until after Fast Lane. Each woman has a five minute promo segment on their own show each week to hype the match. Essentially just give me a highlight reel similar to the tweets between them and people will never stop caring.
At the same time, Vince McMahon can make veiled references to other matches as the ‘main event’. That will galvanize further support behind it, despite the growing love for Seth Rollins and Kofi Kingston.
Then, after Fast Lane, the invasions begin. Ronda Rousey owes Becky Lynch an invasion, so with the temperature rising, she invades SmackDown and starts a back and forth that sees blood, pull apart brawls and even the arrest of last week’s Raw. I don’t know; I just liked it.
This storyline might seem massively overdone and overblown but this time last year the same was being said of the Rousey and Angle vs McMahon and Triple H and that ended up being widely heralded as the match of the night. Go back and watch it now. It’s the most textbook cowardly heel vs strong face you’ve ever seen. Stephanie McMahon looked like a credible competitor for all of twenty seconds.
Both of these women are great wrestlers and great storytellers. They can and will deliver a masterpiece. All of this extra was not necessary. Give Rousey and Lynch the ball and just let things happen.
