WWE WrestleMania 35 Rebook: No Brock Lesnar, But A Shield Triple Threat
By Tom Colohue
10. Demon King Finn Balor vs Batista
Intercontinental Championship Match
I said earlier that Bobby Lashley was not booked for my WWE WrestleMania 35. I stand by that. For the purposes of the rebooking, Finn Balor does not lose the Intercontinental title back to Lashley and instead goes into a feud with Batista.
The story itself would be relatively simple. I like to change as little as possible. Batista has never been an Intercontinental or United States champion. Batista is not a grand slam champion. Last year, before WrestleMania, Randy Orton did become a grand slam champion. This leaves Batista as the only member of Evolution to not be a grand slam champion.
Batista is a big guy. He is bulky. There’s a lot of beef there. Batista is hella beefy, essentially. The sight of Finn Balor holding a title that Batista himself has never won? Too much. Just too much. Come Ric Flair’s birthday celebration, during an actual in ring party, Ric Flair would sing the praises of Finn Balor and Batista would absolutely lose it.
This would have echoes of Batista vs Mysterio. Batista would spare no mercy; he would demolish Balor repeatedly until the match was made. Batista wants to save the Intercontinental title. He wants to join his compatriots at the top table as a grand slam champion and he is envious of Ric Flair’s new favorite. Of Triple H’s NXT protege.
Finn Balor, after several beatings, would make himself very clear on the go home show. He would tell Batista to his face “I don’t think I can beat you; but I’m willing to do whatever it takes. Are you?”
Getting the rub from a household name such as Batista could be hugely beneficial for Finn Balor. We would get a competitive match for the Demon King, a great spectacle for the grandest stage of them all and, whichever way they go, an Intercontinental champion worth the belt.
