Kurt Angle vs. Baron Corbin
Finally it was time for the farewell match of Kurt Angle, and the power of the moment was clear. Baron Corbin made his way to the ring first with a lengthy and arrogant introduction before wrestling’s only Olympic Gold Medalist made his final entrance at WrestleMania 35.
The match started hard with Kurt Angle hitting an early suplex, but Baron Corbin changed the pace and took control of things. He began wearing down the veteran before getting caught in a trio of german suplexes. Angle then went for an early attempt at an Ankle Lock, but Corbin slipped away and nailed Deep Six for a very close near fall.
Angle fought hard, nailing an Angle Slam out of nowhere, but Baron Corbin still kicked out. Angle removed the straps on his singlet and looked ready to finish things off, putting the Ankle Lock on Corbin. It looked like “The Lone Wolf” might tap out, but he finally fought through and rolled Angle into the ropes to escape the move.
Moments later, Corbin looked in control as he began mocking desires of fans to have Angle face John Cena by doing Cena’s “you can’t see me” taunt. Angle responds with a stiff right hand and another trio of german suplexes. Angle was looking to finish things off, going to the top rope for the first time in years for his amazing moonsault.
Angle hit the moonsault to perfection, but Corbin had rolled out of the way. Baron Corbin followed it up by getting Angle to his feet and hitting End of Days to pick up the win and end Kurt Angle’s career with Corbin standing tall. After the match, Angle grabbed the microphone and thanked the crowd before asking for one last “you suck” chant to his music as he left the arena.
Grade: B-, Also a decent but uneventful match. Like Corbin or not, this was a win he can gloat about for some time. Kurt Angle hit his spots, and it was fitting for him to end his career by missing the moonsault. Thank you, Kurt. For everything.
