WWE: 3 reasons why Men’s Tag Titles should be unified at Superstar Shakeup 2019
Less space taken up on PPV cards
Since Backlash last year after WrestleMania 34, WWE’s Pay Per Views are dual-branded, and that has made cards more stacked than ever. But it makes things crowded, and it means that not every championship can be defended on every card. With the Women’s Tag Team Championships thankfully, finally being implemented, that makes space on the card even more precious, especially with the Cruiserweight Championship and two mid-card titles already being in place for the men of WWE.
To help clear out some space on Pay Per View cards, just having one pair of tag team championships for the men could be a solution. Instead of throwing one match on the pre-show or having one tag division feel left out, WWE could have one guaranteed WWE Tag Team Championship match at every Pay Per View between two elite teams, and if there’s a big-time feud between two other teams (perhaps in pursuit of a future title opportunity), then that could be added to the card if there’s space.
WWE likes to have long Pay Per Views to fill time on the Network, but they may have to switch out that strategy for more content like “Worlds Collide” or “NXT vs. NXT Alumni” tournaments. There seems to be backlash from the fans towards PPVs that are TOO long, and with All Elite Wrestling emerging, that may be of concern. To be fair, it probably isn’t, but it’s something worth bringing up, since enough fans consider it a talking point.
Regardless, sometimes less is more, and having just one championship for everyone to compete for would help bring some balance to the card, especially when it comes to how many men’s matches there are compared to women’s matches.
