Nightshade vs Mercedes Martinez

Getting to see Mercedes Martinez perform at EVE multiple times since the start of the year has been an absolute privilege. She’s truly one of the industry’s most talented and exciting veterans, and it’s fantastic to see her sharing her knowledge and skills with some of EVE’s up-and-coming talent.

And props to Nightshade too, who seems to get better and better every time I see her wrestle. Hard-hitting and aggressive, she was an excellent foil to Martinez, who stood up to Nightshade’s punishment and matched her blow for blow. Despite her comparative inexperience Nightshade stood up to Martinez admirably, and it was only Martinez’s quick thinking which secured her the victory, reversing a One-Winged Angel into a rollup.

Rebel Kinney vs Mercedez Blaze

If you haven’t heard of Rebel Kinney yet – don’t worry, you will. There’s been a tremendous amount of buzz surrounding this up-and-coming star, a graduate of Pro Wrestling EVE’s own EVE Academy, and here, on her EVE debut, it was easy to see why. Kinney is a vibrant and vivid character, utterly unapologetic about her sexuality; transcending lingering expectations about what a woman wrestler should look like, how she ought to present herself. Rebel Kinney does not give a f–k.

Originally slated to take on Chardonnay, Kinney was instead presented with Mercedez Blaze, who was vocally unimpressed with her opposition. You have to admire Blaze’s spirit, but this was a terrible mistake. Kinney is absolutely punishing in the ring: to take one of her shoulder tackles must be like being hit by a car. Mercedez put up a valiant fight, but it was only ever going to go one way, and Kinney stood tall to rapturous applause. She’s already won over the EVE regular, and I predict a steady trajectory all the way to the top for Rebel Kinney.
