Jamie Hayter vs Emi Sakura

Jamie Hayter has always been good, but her recent stint in Stardom seems to have given her a confidence boost. Tonight’s match was pure hard-hitting Joshi, with both Emi and Hayter firing on all cylinders. Emi is an absolute joy to watch: an endearing mix of quirky and hard and nails, one minute she’s enticing the crowd to clap in the rhythm of Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’, the next she’s flinging herself off the top rope in a perfectly executed moonsault.

Hayter was standing in for the injured Charlie Morgan, who had made it clear at Global Women Strike II that she would be coming for Kay Lee Ray’s Pro Wrestling EVE Championship. But Hayter proved herself more than just a substitute. She’s fluid in the ring, lacing together compelling sequences with veteran Emi Sakura; she takes hard bumps and gets right back up again. It’s not hard to see why Stardom have shown interest in her, and I anticipate big things for Jamie Hayter in the coming years.

But Emi Sakura is strong, and wily to boot, and though Hayter did her best, it wasn’t enough to stop Emi, who plainly has her sights set on reclaiming the Pro Wrestling EVE Championship.

The stage is now set for a bevy of exciting rivalries and fascinating stories as we count down the months to Wrestle Queendom. With Kris Wolf’s retirement show later this month, and She Persisted in May – another sure-to-be sellout show – we’ve got plenty of time yet to build up to the endgame. Trust in Pro Wrestling EVE to keep the good times coming – nobody is doing it better than them.
